Ashford moved up to fifth in South League Premier Division 2 when for the fourth time in as many weeks they were involved in a game that finished 3-2.

Jen Wilson’s side had much soul-searching to do after the previous week’s home defeat to London Wayfarers and it seemed to do the trick as they came out all guns blazing in Oxfordshire.

Ewan Hendry’s through-ball found a clever run from Adam Fox, whose control and snap shot caught the home keeper out to open the scoring.

Ashford welcomed back Dan Wells after a few weeks out and his calmness made a major difference as the visitors reached the break still hanging on to their slender lead.

The second half saw Ashford again fly out of the traps and a neat move at short corner led to Hendry’s cross being deflected into the roof of the net by Andy Hill.

Ten minutes later, Rob Playford drew the home defence before setting up James Spain, who followed a great first touch with a shot past the Henley keeper.

Ashford looked well on top at this stage but Henley then managed to cut the deficit, courtesy of a far-post finish.

The home side made it 3-2 after a short corner had been saved but not properly cleared.

They will be now be hoping for more away success at Barnes on Saturday.
