Police say the crash happened on the B2096 between Netherfield and Battle just before midday yesterday.

It is understood that the rider, who was travelling south towards Battle, may have been attempting to overtake a Ford Transit van when the smash happened.

The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man from St Leonards-on-Sea, was unhurt.

A 30-year-old woman from Sedlescombe, who was driving the Seat and travelling north, was also unhurt in the collision.

The road was closed for four hours while the scene was investigated.

Police have issued an appeal for any witnesses who saw the crash to contact them by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phoning 101, quoting Operation Shaldon.
