Illegal rave attracts police attention

POLICE received calls from concerned residents towards the end of an illegal rave atttended by hundreds of people in a Kent village last Saturday and Sunday.

Vehicles were parked in surrounding lanes at Kingswood, Challock, near Ashford, causing problems but police say these were passable with care.

Police estimated that between 600-700 people attended the event during the weekend.

A group of between 12-15 youths were reported to be loitering in the car park of a local public house on Sunday morning, but officers reported that the car park was being used as a meeting point and the youths caused no problems.

The event began to wind down at around 10.am on Sunday and the majority had left the site by 2pm. The last left the site at around 7.20pm.

Rubbish had been collected and the site tidied by the organisers. Police officers attended the area every 90 minutes during the event.

Police spokeswoman Rosemary Alexander said the landowner and local residents had expressed satisfaction at the way the situation had been handled by the police.
