A full-scale rescue operation was mounted following a report that a man had fallen over the cliffs between Dover and Folkestone.
Coastguard rescue teams and Dover lifeboat crew went to the area on Wednesday, at The Warren, and discovered the man was injured, but still alive.
Using the lifeboat’s inflatable Y boat, two crew members went ashore and provided first aid and then helped transfer him to a Coastguard vehicle to be taken to a waiting ambulance.
The rescuers then found that he hadn’t actually fallen over the cliffs, he had fallen over, while camping, at the foot of the cliffs. He suffered a leg injury.
Dover lifeboat coxswain Stuart Richardson said: “It was a relief to hear that the man hadn’t fallen from cliffs as the outcome could have been very different. We hope that he makes a speedy recovery.”
