Hole opens up on North Street, Ashford

A deep hole has opened up in Ashford town centre.

The pit in North Street is believed to have appeared this morning.

The gap is on a cobbled pedestrian walkway in the town centre and gaps in the paving show a deep hole beneath the surface.

The brickwork appears to have caved in on itself, but the cause is not known.

Kent County Council Highway's team are now coning off the area as a safety precaution and are sending workmen to make it safe as a maintenance priority.

The Highways team advise members of the public to report incidents such as these on their website.
