Roadside protest against Ashford MP's arrest

A constituent set up a one-man protest over the arrest of MP Damian Green.

Joe Rossi stood alongside Ashford’s ring road on Monday morning holding up a placard condemning the police action against the Ashford MP.

Mr Rossi, of Brook Road, Ashford said: “I am infuriated. This is an insult to an innocent man.”

Mr Rossi’s message, on a blackboard, said: “Invicta (Latin for unvanquished). Damian Green was right, giving Comrade Brown a fright. Coppers are for crime, not to toe the Labour line.”

Mr Rossi, in a highly visible yellow jacket and Union Jack tie, held his 45-minute protest at the junction of Somerset Road and North Street.

Mr Green was arrested last Thursday in connection with a series of leaks from the Home Office, sparking a cross-party outcry among fellow MPs.

Mr Rossi has previously held similar one-man protests, such as against the war in Iraq.
