Ashford Borough Council staff receive 100 scam calls... from man pretending to work for Ashford Borough Council

A scam caller pretending to be from Ashford Borough Council has made more than 100 calls this morning... to Ashford Borough Council.

The dippy hoaxer claimed to be from the council's Accident Investigation Department and called himself Mike Silvatro.

He told employees he wanted to talk about their "recent accident".

When staff members started asking questions, the phoney phone scammer hung up.

But it isn't just the council that's been targeted.

At least one resident contacted the council's customer services department this morning to report receiving a similar call.

Call centre staff have been made aware of the scam so they can advise members of the public not to give away personal information and the council tweeted a warning earlier telling anyone who gets a call like this to hang up.

Ashford Borough Council has reported the calls to police.

Report suspected scams to Kent County Council's trading standards department here or by calling 03454 04 05 06.
