Under the hammer

The former adult education centre in Ashford has been sold at auction for £500,000.
Associate House in Upper Queens Road went under the hammer after Kent County Council decided to sell it.

The property, located on 1.4 acres, was among 76 lots in Kent being sold by Clive Emson land and property auctioneers at the Kent County Showground.

It used to serve as Ashford Adult Education Centre before the service was relocated in the summer to the new Gateway Plus building at Church Road.
Kevin Gilbert, the auctioneer, said: “We anticipated keen interest because there was a lot of bricks and mortar at a competitive price, and this proved the case, with the gavel banging down on the rostrum on £500,000 following fierce bidding.”
He added: “The Edwardian building could be turned into a lovely family house or redeveloped for residential use, subject to all the necessary consents being obtainable. However, we are not privy to any plans, if any, the new owner has.”
