Athlete John breaks own record to complete win hat-trick

JOHN CREANE made it a hat-trick of wins in the new Connells Friday 5 Series organised by Ashford Tri Club — and also picked up a win bonus.

The Folkestone Running Club athlete claimed the cash prize for breaking his own course record romping home over the Victoria Park course in 15 minutes 46 seconds.

Second was Invicta AC's Robert Dennis the talented 18-year-old recording 16:14 with Creane's teammate Sam Rigby taking third with 16:39.

There was a new name and a new course record in the ladies race with Meredith Pannett making her debut to win in 18:18 in fine style.

Second woman home was Heidi Coleman in 18:48 with third place and second veteran goimng to Jo Doubtfire with 19:27.

First men's veteran was Larkfield's Chris Neale with 17:49 from Robert Fursey (Medway and Maidstone) with 17:57 and third was Ashford Tri Club's Tim Sutton in 18:01.

Best junior performance came from Invicta's Alex Newson, a fine 10th overall, with 18:10 from Ashford's Stephen Yarnley with 19:27 and Dylan Jones (Ashford AC) with 20:14.

Leading girl was rising star Kelsey Howard from Ashford AC clocking 20:59. Supervet categorgies were dominated by Mark and Barbara Wenman (Canterbury Harriers) with 19;26 and 21:06.

The fourth and final Friday 5 Series race is on August 3.
