Cray Valley 1 Charlton Athletic 6 FA Cup match report: Kyrell Lisbie’s penalty draws Millers level but Addicks show their League 1 class

Charlton needed their big-hitters to end Cray Valley’s brilliant FA Cup run on Wednesday night.

Star players Alfie May, Miles Leaburn and captain George Dobson were named in the starting XI for the First-Round replay.

They all scored, including a double for May, with substitutes Tyreece Campbell and Micah Mbick also on target as the League 1 Addicks set up a trip to Gillingham in the next round.

Kyrell Lisbie briefly drew the Millers level with a penalty late in the first half but Charlton showed their class to pull clear with three goals in a nine-minute spell after the break.

Cray Valley boss Steve McKimm named the same side who drew 1-1 at the Valley.

Charlton, having played their second string in the first game, brought back their big guns, with Corey Blackett-Taylor also named in the starting XI.

The Millers set out to keep things tight early on in front of a capacity crowd of 1,500 at the Artic Stadium, and they kept Charlton at bay for a good spell.

May was the bright spark operating from the right, the one likely to make something happen, testing keeper Sam Freeman a couple of times.

Midway through the first half it looked as though the Addicks were beginning to wear down the Isthmian South East side.

Lucas Ness - whose own goal at the Valley sent the tie to a replay - twice went close with headers from successive corners.

Charlton, having controlled possession, took the lead in the 35th minute.

Ness was the provider with a ball over the top from just inside his own half for May to race on to.

The first touch was brilliant to bring the ball under control and the finish wasn’t bad either.

Cray Valley were never going to lie down, though, and they levelled two minutes before half-time.

Lisbie was taken out by keeper Sam Walker after chasing down a long ball and while the foul was outside the area, referee Charles Breakspear awarded a penalty and booked the Addicks keeper.

Lisbie’s stuttering run-up committed Walker and the Millers talisman placed his penalty down the middle for the equaliser.

Charlton were out early for the second half and regained the lead in the 49th minute when Leaburn headed home Nathan Asiimwe’s cross.

Two minutes later, it was 3-1, with May collecting Scott Fraser’s pass down the right, rounding Freeman and finishing from a tight angle.

The two-goal cushion was exactly what Charlton needed, easing into game management mode, but things got even better for them with goal number four in the 58th minute.

It was some strike, too, with skipper Dobson picking up Asiimwe’s pass and firing into the top corner on his left foot from 25 yards.

That was harsh on Cray Valley after competing so well and there was a fifth for the Addicks when substitute Campbell slotted home from the edge of the box on 77 minutes.

Fellow substitute Micah Mbick added a tap-in five minutes from time after Freeman parried Fraser’s strike.
