Police have welcomed the issuing of anti-social behaviour orders to two men who abused and harassed passers-by and shoppers whilst drunk in Canterbury.

Magistrates agreed applications to impose ASBOs on Judd Osbourne, 36, of Querns Road, Canterbury, and Kevin Lusher, 44, who has no permanent address.

The applications were made by Canterbury’s Public Safety Unit, a partnership of police and Canterbury council.

Osbourne has been charged 10 times since last May with being drunk and disorderly.

Under terms of the ASBO, he is banned from being drunk in a public place and excluded from an area of St Peter's Street, High Street, The Parade and Whitefriars shopping centre.

He is also prevented from using abusive, offensive, threatening or intimidating language or behaviour.

Lusher is banned for two years from using abusive, offensive, threatening or intimidating language or behaviour and possessing any open alochol in any public place.

He has come to the notice of police several times since October and has been charged with being drunk and disorderly and two offences of racially aggravated harassment.

Ch Insp Mark Harrison said: “Those enjoying the city centre should not have to put up with being harassed by people such as these two men.

"Dealing with them also takes up time of police officers that I am sure the majority of the public would prefer to see spent on other issues.

“These orders simply ask these two men to behave in a normal and social way and if breached they will be brought again before the courts.”
