Judas towers above other cats

Britain's tallest cat Judas has finally found a loving home.

The massive moggy has struggled to find a family fit for his impressive stature since moving to the Happy Endings rescue centre a year ago.

But after his plight hit the headlines in November last year the cattery in Well Lane, Ospringe was inundated with offers to rehome Judas.

More than 100 people called the home, including one of Britain’ strongest men Terry Hollands, who offered to take on the tabby.

But it was a family from Folkstone who finally snapped up the black and white feline who stands at an impressive 19 inches - more than 10 inches taller than the average domestic cat height.

And so Judas this week packed his bags and headed off for his very own happy ending in the seaside town.

The charity’s founder Terry Kemp said: “It is fantastic news. We cannot wait for him to head off to the good home he deserves.

“The family are really down to earth and it does not bother them that they will not be able to pick him up.

“They have always had male cats that are big so when they read about Judas they really wanted him.”

Judas tips the scales at a staggering 20lb, which is more than double the average weight.

Happy endings’ Heather, who has worked at the cattery for 11 years, is thrilled he will finally find a home.

She said: “He is certainly not a lap cat – unless you have a very large lap! It is fantastic news. Every cat seems to get a home and Judas doesn’t.

“It will be awful to see him go but he is a real gentle giant and we all love him.”

The world’s tallest cat measured 19in from paw to shoulder. Trouble, who hailed from Sacramento, California, died in 2012, but was recognised by the 2013 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest cat in the world.

He weighed 20lb – the same as Judas.
