EastEnders star Scott Maslen has been talking about why he chose
to become patron of the Kentish Gazette and kmfm's charity of the year.

The actor (pictured right), who plays Jack Branning in the BBC
soap and previously took on the role of DS Phil Hunter in ITV1's
The Bill, agreed to support Kent Kids' Miles of Smiles last
month.

Scott is set to be guest of honour at the charity's annual music
festival on Sunday, July 26, after recently visiting both
Footprints and Redwalls care homes in Stodmarsh Road,
Canterbury.

He said: "The charity are doing such wonderful work on such a
small amount of money.

"I agreed to become a patron as I was so impressed by the
quality of work and the total commitment of those working
there.

"For such a small charity to be making such a genuine difference
to the lives of so many children is amazing. I was thrilled to be
asked to be part of it."

The charity celebrates its 10th anniversary this year after
opening its first care home Footprints, which offers permanent and
respite care for sick and disabled children and young people of
Kent.

Head of fundraising Liz Baxter is delighted to have Scott on
board.

She said: "His dedication and commitment will be a huge asset
and we are honoured to welcome this popular star to our team.

"Our partnership will give us an amazing platform to increase
awareness and reach further into the community."
