London drug dealer Albert Ankrah, 21, jailed for drug offences in Canterbury

A drug dealer from London who travelled to Canterbury to supply heroin and crack cocaine has been jailed for four years.

Albert Ankrah, of New Road in Rotherhithe, was arrested in August last year after complaints from residents about drug use in their neighbourhood.

The 21-year-old was caught by two officers patrolling the Spring Lane area who spotted him leaving a block of flats in Cumberland Avenue.

He matched the description of a suspected drug dealer given to police by a member of the public.

Despite trying to avoid the officers, Ankrah was stopped in an alleyway by Cornwall Gardens and taken to Canterbury police station where he was searched and found with six wraps of heroin, nine wraps of crack cocaine and a small bag of cannabis.

He pleaded not guilty to charges of possessing heroin with intent to supply and possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply but was found guilty following a trial.

He was sentenced for the two offences, and a further charge of possessing cannabis, at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday.

Investigating officer PC Richard Lorimer, who arrested Ankrah, said: “He came to Canterbury with the sole intention of exploiting vulnerable people to drug abuse.

“He showed scant regard for the impact drugs have on users and communities. Instead he tried to profit from the misery they cause.

“This case shows that we do respond to concerns reported to us by members of the public and I would encourage anyone with information on drug dealing to contact us on 101 so that we can take the necessary action.”
