A stretch of the M2 is currently closed in both directions after a motorcyclist was injured this morning (Sunday).

Emergency services were called to the London-bound carriageway between junctions six (for Faversham) and five (for Maidstone and Sheerness), at around 9.15am.

The road has been closed to allow the Kent Air Ambulance to land safely and to airlift the motorcyclist to hospital.

A spokesman for Kent Police described the casualty's injuries as "serious".

"The London-bound carriageway will be closed for some considerable time," he added.

"At present, the coastbound carriageway has been closed to ease traffic congestion and to allow the air ambulance to land."

No other vehicles were involved.
