There's more to come from us, says Herne Bay boss Simon Halsey

Simon Halsey saw Herne Bay go second in the table and then warned: We haven’t got going yet.

Bay boss Halsey (pictured) is convinced his side are capable of sustaining a promotion challenge on their debut season in Ryman League, Division 1 South.

They stretched their unbeaten run to six games with a 2-1 home win against Horsham last Saturday and sit just one point behind leaders Crawley Down.

Halsey said: "We haven’t got going yet. We’ve played lots of good stuff but we’ve been nowhere near our best. There’s so much more to come and I hope that does worry a few people."

Bay don’t have a game this weekend but Halsey will learn more about his side next month during a run of fixtures that sees them take on Worthing, Folkestone, Leatherhead, Dulwich and Faversham.

He said: "We need 11 points from our next nine matches to hit our target of 30 points from 20 games. We have some tough games coming up in November, then we play Maidstone at the start of December but I don’t fear anybody in this league."

Kent clubs occupy five of the top eight places in the division, led by second-placed Bay.

"It’s great to see so many Kent clubs up there," said Halsey.
