Trio of outdoor fires in Canterbury, Seasalter and Tenterden

A fire which destroyed more than three hectares of scrubland in Canterbury was part of a trio of outdoor fires in east Kent yesterday.

Crews were called to Old Park Howe Barracks in Canterbury just before 3pm to reports of grass alight.

The blaze extended over three hectares of gorse and scrubland.

They didn’t leave the area until 7pm.

Earlier in the day, at 1pm, another crew dealt with around 150 square metres of grass alight adjacent to the railway line near Alberta Caravan Park in Faversham Road, Seasalter.

Crews also attended 20 square metres of hay and straw alight in a field near Ashford Road, Tenterden.

Firefighters were called shortly before noon. They tackled the blaze until around 2.30pm.

They used a hose reel yet, fog spike, beater and flexi-pack to help tackle the three fires.
