A courageous teenager who has spent months recovering from life-threatening car crash injuries, a sixth former who cared for her dying mother and the community efforts of a head boy were among the winners of the 2009 Canterbury Try Angle Awards.

Will Roberts, 18, (pictured) of Querns Road, Canterbury, spent six weeks in intensive care. When he regained consciousness he couldn't talk or remember his family.

St Anselm's student Danielle Buckley cared for her mother who was terminally ill with cancer. And James Brown, head boy of Chaucer Technology College, organised a Christmas meal for about 60 old people and many community fund-raising events.

The awards were presented at the Christian Centre in Seasalter.
