Kent's Jordan Cox named in England squad for seven-match T20 tour of Pakistan

Kent’s Jordan Cox has earned his first senior international England call-up.

Cox, 21, is one of five uncapped players named in the 19-strong squad for their seven-match T20 tour of Pakistan.

England captain Jos Buttler, recovering from a calf injury, will tour Pakistan ahead of the T20 World Cup, but he is only expected to be available to play during the latter stages of the series. In Buttler's absence, all-rounder Moeen Ali will captain the side.

Margate-born Cox is joined by fellow uncapped players Middlesex seamer Tom Helm, Surrey batsman Will Jacks, Warwickshire quick bowler Olly Stone and Lancashire seamer Luke Wood in the squad.

Cox has played 43 T20 matches for his county, scoring 865 runs at an average of 30.89. He helped them win the T20 Blast title last year as he put in a player-of-the-match performance in their final against Somerset, which included playing a role in a remarkable relay catch as he parried the ball back to team-mate Matt Milnes.

On Twitter, Kent captain Sam Billings wrote: "Very proud. Well deserved. Another @KentCricket Academy graduate and home-grown player."

Kent head coach Matt Walker added: "[I'm] so proud to see another Kent academy graduate get selected for England. Well deserved!"

England's touring party will fly out on September 14 ahead of their first match six days later.

The National Stadium, Karachi, will stage the first four T20 encounters before the final three games of the tour are played at The Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The last match of the tour is on October 2.

Billings, meanwhile, is not included in either the England World Cup squad or the squad set to tour Pakistan.

If selected to play for England during the tour, former under-19 international Cox will become the sixth Kent player to play T20 cricket for England after Amjad Khan, Rob Key, Joe Denly, James Tredwell and Billings.
