Canterbury produced a spirited second half fightback before losing 38-22 at National 3 South leaders Ealing on Saturday.

"We really competed in lots of areas and showed plenty of fight," said head coach Danny Vaughan. "We out-scrummaged them and had we been able to take all our chances it is a game we might have won."

The City club trailed 21-0 late in the first half before Gert De Kock’s penalty pulled three points back.

The South African back added a try after the restart and Mike Melford also crossed the line to reduce the deficit to six points before Ealing showed their undoubted quality to put the game beyond the visitors with 17 consecutive points.

Chistoff Blom’s late try, converted by De Kock, and a touch of respectability to the scoreline.
