Charlton missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Brighton in League 1 after a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.

The Addicks played against 10 men for more than 80 minutes but had only Johnnie Jackson's early penalty to show for their efforts.

Brighton's Inigo Calderon saw red for a two-footed challenge five minutes after Jackson's spot-kick but Glen Murray looped the ball home before the break to level the scores.

Charlton boss Phil Parkinson, pictured, said: "I can't fault the lads because it's difficult against 10 men, as everybody knows.

"Brighton did a good job with 10 men, you've got to give them credit for that, but when we passed it simply and switched the play, we looked good.

"In the first half, we did very well, but in the second half we forced it at some points in our frustration."
