A mother and her young child were caught in a terrifying car cash when her white Ford Fiesta flipped onto its side on the Dartford Crossing.

Alex Carter and her 16-month-old son were returning to Kent from the Lakeside shopping centre in Essex yesterday (Thursday, Oct 8) when her car was in collision with a lorry.

She said the impact sent her car spinning across the road until it "flipped on its side into the fast lane" trapping her son in his car seat.

Since appealing on social media to track down the rescuers who helped pull her son free from the wreckage - her post was shared 2,500 times - she has made contact with everyone to thank them.

She said: "I really wanted to find the people who helped get my son out of the car to thank them myself.

"There was a man who was a paramedic who sat myself and my son in his Land Rover until the police came.

"And another lady with short brown hair in a grey jumper. I think there may be a few other men who helped get my son out. I have never been so grateful to anyone in my life."

It could have been a completely different story

She added: "Thankfully, the limit over the bridge was only 30mph so everyone was only just picking up speed. If we had been driving any faster, or if anyone was coming in the fast lane at that moment, it could have been a completely different story."

She said: "I want to thank everyone who came to help me as I climbed out of the car and helped free my son from his car seat. I owe a massive thank-you for helping my baby!"

The crash happened at noon and caused massive tailbacks of traffic.
