A mother-of-four keyed a man’s new car because she thought he had parked it too close to hers.

Sarah Webb caused almost £1,000 of damage to Trevor Breed’s Dacia Logan after she had been out shopping with her children in Dartford.

A court heard Mr Breed had parked his car at Prospect Place in Dartford in April 2022 and had gone off to do some shopping himself.

A short while later, Webb returned to her car with her children. She put her shopping in the boot and then took her keys out of her handbag and made scratches along his vehicle, before putting her children in the car and driving off.

But what Webb did not realise is her actions were caught on the car park’s CCTV and she was identified and later arrested and charged.

The 45-year-old initially denied an allegation of criminal damage and was due to stand trial over the matter, but on the day it was due to start she pleaded guilty.

Webb, of Malt Kiln Place, Dartford, returned to Medway Magistrates’ Court on October 11 to be sentenced.

Prosecutor Emily Wyles told magistrates the damage caused to Mr Breed’s car cost £975 to repair.

She added: “She returned to her vehicle and put her shopping inside the car, but takes her keys out of her handbag and then scratches his vehicle and then puts her children in the car and drove off.

“It was the first time Mr Breed had ever purchased a new car in his life and he just parked his car, had done nothing wrong.”

Magistrates were told Webb had only denied the allegation because she did not want to accept she had done it and still didn’t know why she had.

Magistrates placed her on an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered she pay Mr Breed £975 compensation as well as £300 court costs and a victim surcharge of £26.
