Charlton bowed-out of the FA Cup in Keith Peacock's first game in caretaker charge, going down 3-0 to Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs edged the first half, though couldn't find a way past Rob Elliot in the Addicks goal, Roman Pavlyuchenko being denied from long-range while Niko Kranjcar's free-kick curled wide and Christian Dailly denied Jermain Defoe with a last-ditch block.

On his return to the club where he started his career Johnnie Jackson teed-up Scott Wagstaff to fire wide from 10 yards at the other end.

The game changed with the introduction of midfield maestro Luka Modric at half-time and within four minutes the deadlock had been broken by teenage Spurs debutant Andros Townsend who fired a low drive which deflected past Rob Elliot from 20 yards.

Just before the hour Defoe raced through to smash in the second from the edge of the box against the club at which he began his career.

Two minutes later the England striker danced through to add a third at the second attempt after Elliot had saved his first drive.

Charlton sub Kyel Reid stung the palms of Carlo Cudicini in the closing stages and Akpo Sodje saw an 18-yard drive tipped over late-on but the Addicks could not find a consolation.
