Charlton Athletic suffered late heartbreak as a last-gasp goal gave Ipswich Town the points in a 1-0 win at the Valley on Saturday lunchtime.

It was a first home defeat of the Championship season for Bob Peeters' side, who have now won just twice in their last nine games and not scored a goal for 231 minutes.

Town debutant Noel Hunt won the match in the 95th minute, driving low across Nick Pope's goal from an angle and finding the bottom corner after the Addicks had failed to clear a low cross from David McGoldrick.

Hunt's goal - his first in 18 months - came a minute after the scheduled end of added time, with the extra stoppage time played following an injury to the Irishman, who had to leave the field for treatment on his nose after an aerial clash with one-time Reading teammate Andre Bikey.

Bikey had earlier made a vital challenge to deny Conor Sammon after the ball broke to the big Scotsman in the area after Francis Coquelin was caught in possession in his own half.

McGoldrick drove straight at Pope - in for the injured Stephen Henderson - from the edge of the box late-on and fizzed a volley wide in stoppage-time as the Tractorboys pressed for a winner in a game which Charlton had enjoyed the better of for long periods.

Top-scorer Igor Vetokele twice saw his touch let him down with the goal at his mercy while Johan Berg Gudmundsson saw a shot blocked after cutting onto his left foot after the break.
