Bristol City 2 Charlton 1

Charlton's Coca-Cola Championship survival hopes were dealt another blow as they tossed away the lead for the second time in four days at Bristol City on Tuesday.

Defeat leaves the club with 15 games to save themselves while facing the prospect of being relegated well before the end of a miserable season.

Veteran City striker Dele Adebola condemned the Addicks to a 19th League defeat of the season with a second half brace.

The 33-year-old deflated Charlton with goals in the 49th and 53rd minutes just as the visitors believed they had taken a grip on the game.

As in Saturday's match at Burnley, Charlton boosted their flagging confidence by taking the lead.

Tom Soares, with his first goal since arriving on loan from Stoke last month, heading in Nicky Bailey's cross.

The goal was no more than Charlton deserved after dominating for long periods and Chris Dickson should have increased the lead minutes later when he dragged his shot wide when well placed.

City mounted sustained pressure at the start of the second half. And it paid off when Adebola equalised in the 49th minute.

Charlton heads dropped and in the 53rd Adebola showed neat control for a big man when he beat goalkeep Rob Elliot from close range to leave the visitors needing a miracle if they are to beat the drop.

Charlton: Elliot; Murty (Ambrose 74mins), Holland, Ward, Basey; Racon (Sam 74mins),Spring, Bailey, Soares (Moutaouakil 79mins); Dickson, Kandol. Subs not used: Randolph, Burton.

Attendance: 15,304.
