Deal residents give a little love to the homeless with shoebox donations

A Deal woman’s pledge to give a little love to the homeless at Christmas prompted more than 60 donations from members of the public.

Jaymie Dunster, of Downs Road, collected shoeboxes full of goods including toothpaste, socks and chocolate plus bags of dog treats from a number of drop off points including the Mercury office, The Telegraph pub, Tamarisk Boutique and The Dog House.

She delivered them to the Catching Lives homeless shelter in Canterbury on Christmas Eve.

The mum-of-one, who also ran her ‘Give a little love campaign’ in 2014, said: “It was fantastic. I had well over 60 shoeboxes which is about 20 more than last year, as well as dog stuff.

“The staff and volunteers were over the moon.

“Next year I’m thinking about doing it in gift bags rather than shoeboxes as it makes it easier for people.”

The boxes were checked by staff and will be handed out to clients as they come and go, throughout the festive period and into the New Year.

Miss Dunster added: “I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated.”
