Dover town councillors are planning to provide a transport service for visitors this summer in an effort to boost the local economy.

The councillors are looking for someone to work with them on a seasonal visitor transport service designed to increase exploration and spending in Dover. Whoever is chosen will invest an “agreed substantial amount” to enable the service to operate.

They say it will be a flexible arrangement, and whoever provides the service should ideally have knowledge of Dover landmarks, history and places of interest.

“This is the first year of what we hope will develop into a profitable commercial or fund-raising business,” said a council spokesman.

"It is not envisaged for this to be a free service and pricing should reflect the cost of the service though some support is available from Dover Town Council.”

The scheme will enable visitors, local residents, cruise ship passengers and holiday makers to access easily and explore all the key areas of Dover on a hop-on hop-off service.
