Police and fire officers are investigating the cause of a blaze which destroyed the roof of a former hospital building in East Kent this morning.

The alarm was raised just after 3am when flames were seen coming from the roof of the two-storey building in Mill Lane, Eastry.

Fire crews from Eastry, Sandwich, Deal and Whitfield were called to the scene, and more fire-fighters also attended to help tackle the blaze.

The fire was brought under control just before 7am, but the roof was destroyed and there was water and smoke damage to the ground and first floors.
