Martin Hayes’ Dover Athletic stand on the verge of history as they play for a place in the third round of the FA Cup for the first time.

Dover face League 2 Aldershot at Crabble on Saturday, with Premier League giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool awaiting the winners of this weekend’s round two fixtures.

After beating Gillingham in the last round, Hayes’ men will head into the match in buoyant mood.

He said: "It’s going to be one of those games which live with you and the atmosphere will be red hot.

"We’ve got to give it everything like the players did against Gillingham and see how Aldershot cope. We’ve got a chance of making it to the third round and that would be unbelievable.

"It’s not a bad thing to be dreaming of it. We all dream of getting those six numbers in the lottery and we can allow ourselves to have a little thought about that. It should spur the players on more.

Dover have already sold out of tickets for home supporters and none will be available on the day.

Hayes won’t be attaching any sentiment to his team selection in light of the arrival of winger Barry Cogan.

The former Barnet and Gillingham player made a debut from the bench in Dover’s FA Trophy defeat at the weekend against Woking and could make a start against Aldershot.

"You can see he has played at a higher level," said Hayes. "We can’t hold back in the game and I’ll pick a side which will go at them, ask them questions and cause them problems."

Tom Wynter (ankle), Luke I’anson (cold), Elliot Charles (hamstring) and Jason Norville (hamstring) will all be aiming to be fit.
