A woman who is suffering the effects of tripping on a raised paving slab is pleased to have finally discovered who is responsible for the pathway.

Joan Wright, 80, of Drew Lane, Deal, sustained multiple injuries and has since had an elbow replacement after the incident in the alley between Queen Street and Park Street last July.

After seven months of research, the owner of the stretch has been named in Kent County Council documents seen by KentOnline's sister parer the Mercury.

It is Portery Management Co, of Dour Street, Dover, and so far the newspaper has been unable to track it down for comment.

Mrs Wright’s husband, Edward, says he will write to the company, based in Charlton House, demanding it is resurfaced for the safety of the public.

Mrs Edwards said: “All we’ve ever wanted is satisfaction but up until now we’ve had doors closed in our faces.

Mr Edwards said: “We’d like to see all the existing flagstones dug up and it completely resurfaced.

“It won’t be a positive situation until the pavement has been resurfaced but it’s a step forward after considerable time.”

Just two months before the incident, Mrs Wright had been on a trampoline with her grandchildren but now she cannot open bottles, reach high shelves in the supermarket or sleep on her left side.

She said: “My arm is still painful and I cannot really use it.

“The hospital did say it would take up to a year to fully heal.

“I cannot do things like part my hair. I can’t get my arm up enough. I cannot open bottles or get things out of the cupboard.

“I do OK but it’s painful.”

She also damaged her hand and says she can no longer get her wedding ring on because she can’t bend her finger.

She said: “My main concern is that if I can fall, somebody who is less able than me could also fall.”

A KCC spokesman said: “We have ascertained the owners of Queen Street path in Deal, who have assured us they will carry out the required repairs.

“KCC is writing to Mr Wright with details of the owner and wish a speedy recovery for Mrs Wright.”
