A Walmer mother is calling for teens to stick together when they travel home after nights out.

Her plea comes after a “violent assault” took place at the junction of Downs Road and Palmerstone Avenue in Walmer at 3.30am on Sunday.

The police said two men aged 18 and 19 were walking home in the early hours when they were reportedly assaulted by four men.

A police spokesman said: “Both men were taken to hospital with cuts and bruises.”

The woman, who does not want to be named, witnessed the brutal events as they unfolded and is urging people to stay safe.

In a letter, she said: “ The injuries to one of the young men were mainly to the head and possibly a result of being kicked in the head.

“We are all aware an injury or fall as a consequence of this type of assault could have the potential to be very serious.

'So please do not have that extra drink, but spend the money on a taxi' - eyewitness

“So please do not have that extra drink, but spend the money on a taxi or parents please ensure that your children are picked up and taken home by car.

“If you really have to walk home after an evening out please ensure that you are in a group of no less than six, I am led to believe that there were three or four attackers.

“They were interrupted and I am very concerned that the outcome could have been very different if the assault had continued.”
