Cash boxes stolen from Deal train station ticket machine

British Transport Police are appealing for information after cash boxes were stolen from the ticket machine at Deal Train Station.

The machine located on platform one was forced open in the early hours of Wednesday.

It remains out of order.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called to Deal station on Wednesday, December 9, following reports that a ticket machine had been broken into at the platform.

"The incident was reported by station staff at around 5am.

“On arrival officers found that a ticket machine had been opened and cash boxes removed from inside. Inquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesman for Southeastern said: “While the machine is out of service, passengers are unable to purchase tickets at Deal station when the ticket office is closed, which is after 7pm Monday to Saturday and after 4pm on a Sunday.

“During these times, passengers are recommended to locate the conductor onboard the train to purchase tickets.”
