Earth tremor felt in Dover area

An earth tremor hit parts of East Kent, including Dover and Folkestone, on Tuesday.

Houses were reported to have shaken in the Barton, Buckland, River and Aycliffe areas of Dover, and there are reports of tremors being felt in Folkestone.

It happened at 2.36pm and was picked up by a seismic station at Elham.

The tremor, which registered 2.8 on the Richter scale, lasted only a few seconds, and was less severe and much shorter than the one in April 2007.

Police said they had received several calls but neither they, nor the fire service, were required to attend at any locations.
