Father and daughter escape as car bursts into flames

A man and his daughter had a lucky escape after their car caught fire.

After turning on the heating while driving along Barton Road, Dover, at around 8:40am Saturday, the pair smelt smoke and immediately pulled over and got out of their Renault Espace.

Within minutes the pair from Whitfield were watching their vehicle go up in a blaze.

The man - who is thought to be in his 40s - called fire crews straight away and teams from Dover Fire and Rescue used foam to extinguish the flames.

Dover Fire and Rescue’s Watch Manager Paul Mellett said: "Fires like this point to an electrical fault. The driver had not recently filled up the car and it was a relatively new 54 registration plate."

The road was closed briefly but has since been re-opened.
