Significant delays on A2 near Dover after crash on London-bound carriageway between Whitfield and Lydden

A major route has been closed following a “serious” crash involving a car and a motorcycle.

The A2 has been shut in both directions following the incident which occurred on the London-bound side between the Whitfield roundabout and Coldred Hill junction in Lydden near Dover at at 5.35pm.

Traffic is also slow in the east-bound direction as drivers pass the scene of the crash, which has since been moved to the shoulder of the road.

A statement from Highways England said: “The A2 in Kent is closed in both directions between the A260 near Aylesham and A256 near Whitfield due to a serious collision involving a motorcycle. “

An air ambulance was also at the scene but returned to base.

The flow of vehicles is expected to return to normal between 9.30pm and 9.45pm.

A diversion is in place “via local routes” at the scene but no further details have been issued by National Highways.

It is not yet confirmed if anyone was injured in the collision.

The ambulance service has been contacted for comment.
