A Dover pub has closed for a deep-clean after learning one of its Bank Holiday customers has tested positive for Covid-19.

The Archer pub in Sandwich Road has announced the infected person was there on Sunday.

But it has reassured other customers that the individual remained in their bubble in a segregated area of the establishment, so others do not need to get tested or self isolate.

Its step to close and undertake a thorough clean follows government guidance.

It is not yet known when the doors will reopen.

In a statement on its Facebook page, a spokesman said: "Today (September 1) we were informed that a customer that entered the pub on Sunday, August 30 has tested positive for Covid-19.

"Under guidance from NHS test and trace we are taking the preventative measure of having the pub professionally deep cleaned, therefore the pub will be closed until further notice.

"Nothing means more than the safety of our customers and staff.

"We would like to thank everyone that has continued to support us since our re-opening and will see you all as soon as it is safe to do so."

They continued: "The said person was on the premises in the early afternoon hours. Themselves, with their bubble, were in a segregated area of our pub away from other customers.

"All members of this person's bubble and those with close contact have been contacted through NHS track and trace.

"We have been advised that anyone who has not been contacted does not need to be tested, nor self isolate as distance was maintained.

"We have taken all necessary and precautionary measures as instructed by the NHS.

"Safety of our customers and staff is paramount. Thank you all for understanding."
