Until September 18, the road will be shut between the A258 Castle Hill Road and The Lane junctions.

The route is the only direct way between Dover town centre and the Burgoyne Heights estate, but a diversion has been set up, which follows A258 Castle Hill Road, The Lane and Dover Road.

A Kent County Council spokesman said Affinity Water is carrying out an essential upgrade to the water network, “to assist” with the increase in residents.

The spokesman went on: “The closure itself will not affect Burgoyne Heights and residents and visitors will still be able to access the estate by travelling on the diversion route: A258 Castle Hill Road, The Lane, Dover Road and vice versa.

“A closure of this duration will always cause disruption to the network however the works are being done in the main over the summer holidays to try to minimise the impact on the local schools in the area.

New homes, known as Officers View, are being built on Dover Road, which overlook Dour Valley and Dover town centre.

A spokesman for Affinity Water said:“We will be installing a new water pipe and reinforcing existing pipes.

“This work is essential to improve our infrastructure so that neighbours don’t experience any problems with water pressure, and to make sure our supply network can meet expected increases in demand in the future, as well as leaving more water in the environment.”
