Dover Athletic interim joint-boss Mitch Brundle interested in being involved in new-look management team permanently

Mitch Brundle has confirmed he wants to be involved in Dover's new-look management team on a permanent basis.

Brundle and coach Mike Sandmann have been placed in temporary charge for their last three matches since Andy Hessenthaler left and rejoined League 2 strugglers Gillingham as their head of recruitment.

“We’ll just keep working,” said Brundle, whose next game is due to be Tuesday’s Kent Senior Cup clash at Isthmian South East Chatham.

“At the minute, we haven’t had five minutes to think about what will happen going forward because, now, we’ll be in the office, organising again for Tuesday.

“There’s such a quick turnaround. Nothing changes.

“Me and Mike will always do what’s best for the football club. The chairman [Jim Parmenter] has stuck by us and we’re grateful with what he’s doing.

“We take it game-by-game and, hopefully, we can keep progressing.”

Still only 28, the midfielder is certainly taking his new role seriously and hasn’t played since Hessenthaler’s departure. He wasn’t even named in their squad at all on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 at home by title-chasing rivals Ebbsfleet.

Brundle said: “It’s exciting. I like being on the touchline.

“I also like playing, don’t get me wrong, but it’s given me a right good buzz.

“Over the three games, we have created so many chances and the boys have adapted into what we are trying to do. I’m loving every minute of it.”

When simply asked if he wants the job permanently, he replied: “Yeah, I do.”

Brundle last summer rejoined the Crabble outfit after an earlier stint with the club in a playing career which also has seen him turn out for Braintree, Barnet, Dagenham and Gateshead.

“If he [Mr Parmenter] sees me as the right man to do so [become Dover’s new manager], then I’d be privileged and honoured to do it,” he continued.

“I’ve been at this club for a long time in two different spells. I know the club inside out.

“I love this football club so, 100 per cent, if that opportunity arises, I’d certainly be taking it."
