Dover dumped out of FA Trophy

FA Trophy woe for Andy Hessenthaler's side
FA Trophy woe for Andy Hessenthaler's side

Dover Athletic 2 Cambridge City 3

Dover were dumped out of the FA Trophy in Tuesday’s 2nd qualifying round replay at Crabble.

As in Saturday’s first meeting, which was abandoned after 55 minutes because of a waterlogged pitch with Dover leading 2-0, Cambridge City looked a capable outfit and they rocked Andy Hessenthaler’s side by scoring twice in the first six minutes through Ashley Fuller and Neil Midgley.

Dover did draw level before the break through strikes from Shaun Welford and Frannie Collin, but Cambridge went back in front soon after the restart through half-time substiture Ramon Calliste, and Whites were unable to find another way back.

Cambridge’s reward is a home tie with Hastings United in the next round.
