M2 reopens after accident

The M2 has reopened between junctions 5 and 6 after it was closed following an accident involving a lorry.

It happened on the coastbound carriageway betwen the A249 Sittingbourne turning and the A251 Faversham and Ashford road.

The carriageway reopened early Friday morning.

The accident followed another one on the motorway involving a lorry on Thursday afternoon.

That happened about 1.30pm on the London-bound carriageway, a mile before the Faversham turning.

The foreign-registered vehicle went down a bank at the side of the road and the trailer became wedged against trees.

Passing motorists stopped to help the Bosnian driver, who was unhurt.

Police set up a rolling road block to control traffic prior to the scene.

Debris and glass was spilt across the carriageway and one lane was closed while the lorry was unloaded and recovered.
