Faversham man appears in court charged with assaulting police officer

A suspected cocaine dealer who allegedly assaulted a police officer has appeared in court.

Tyler Smith, of Preston Street, Faversham, has been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to supply, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possessing a bladed weapon, dangerous driving, and assaulting an emergency worker.

On Thursday 8 June 2023, police detained a 23-year-old man in Windmill Road, Whitstable, and seized a quantity of cannabis, suspected cocaine and cash from his vehicle.

The constables then searched a property in Faversham and seized further amounts of cocaine and more cash.

As the officers commenced the search, a second man left the address in a van. He was subsequently arrested and another search recovered a knife.

It is alleged the van was driven dangerously after officers required it to stop. It is further alleged that an officer was assaulted after the vehicle came to a halt.

Smith, 25-year-old appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 10 June where he was bailed to a further hearing on Monday 10 July at Canterbury Crown Court.
