Faversham Town boss Ray Turner said his side should not be underestimated

Ray Turner believes his Faversham Town side should not be underestimated by teams near the top of the Bostik South.

Town are in 17th place and are nearly mathematically safe from relegation with 12 games left to play.

Turner believes his side are better than their league position suggests and have the ability to cause problems for promotion chasing sides.

Next up for Faversham are Whyteleafe, who still have an outside chance of making the play-offs.

He said: “We still want to be positive and when we get the full team out we are a match for anyone. There is no real pressure.

“Games like Saturday are important, they are bang in form. They are games when sides near the top may look at the league and think it might be easy. We are a decent enough side to cause problems and we can be a threat.”

Faversham have been hampered by injury problems this season and lost Ryan Cooper to a hamstring injury in their 1-1 draw at East Grinstead Town last Saturday after 21 minutes.

Turner said: “He didn’t play a lot down in Folkestone. Ryan has come back to us and was only his second game and it has been good to have a specialist in that right-back position.

“He will be doubtful for the next game.

“We haven’t been able to name a consistent side and a lot of that has been down to injury. It happens and I have had enough seasons to know that sometimes you just get unlucky with these things.

“The squad is close to coming back.”

Turner’s side came from behind to earn a point against East Grinstead but he felt his side could have come away with more.

He added: “It has not been a great place for us to go in the past but I’m disappointed we did not get the win.

“Credit to both sides because the conditions were hard. Overall we were stronger but we could not find the winning goal.

“We dominated the opening exchanges and then they scored the first time they went forward.

“To get back level was good and then both teams had chances.”

As well as Cooper, Harry Stannard is still struggling with an injury problem and Matt Bourne is unavailable.

Goalkeeper Simon Overland is back after serving a one game suspension.
