Folkestone firefighters issue warning to Kent residents with chimneys after blaze in Lyminge

Firefighters were called to another chimney fire in the Shepway area last night.

Crews from Folkestone have been called to a number of incidents in recent weeks and the latest was at 9pm in Lyminge yesterday.

One of the station's watch managers has issued a warning to residents with chimneys to ensure that fires do not break out in their chimneys.

They were called after a log burner was turned on and caused the chimney stack to catch light.

They were on the scene for around an hour dousing the flames.

Watch manager Giles Parker said: "We used a thermal imaging camera to make sure it was all out.

"It was a pretty standard job but they do happen quite often and it's about making people aware and keep them swept regularly."
