Gran disgusted at state of popcorn chicken served up by Cheriton KFC for one-year-old

A grandmother was left "absolutely disgusted" by the state of the popcorn chicken served up by KFC for her one-year-old grandson.

Stacey Piper says her daughter ordered from the takeaway in Cheriton Road, Folkestone, on Sunday - but says her family will now never eat Colonel Sanders' food again.

Pictures appear to show dark patches on three pieces of the popcorn chicken, which they had bought for the 14-month-old boy.

Stacey, 42, fears this could have been mould and has reported the incident to Folkestone and Hythe District Council.

"I have no idea why they still served it - they're obviously not checking their food properly before it is sent out," she said.

"They're obviously not even checking it before it is cooked.

"Someone needs to be made aware of what they are serving."

Miss Piper's daughter ate a piece of chicken from the box when it arrived and only noticed the strange dark patches when putting it onto a plate for her baby son.

"My first thought was thank God my grandson didn't eat it - it could have made him really unwell," she said.

"My daughter was absolutely disgusted after she had eaten a bit."

The grandmother added the family will not order from the chain again.

She said: "We're put off - we will definitely not go to KFC again. I won't be getting a takeaway for a long time.

"My daughter has been trying to call KFC since Sunday but they are not picking up their phones.

"I told her I would put it on Facebook to warn other people.

"You see these horror stories on Facebook of bits of chicken which still have the heads attached to them and you just assume it is a load of rubbish. But when something like that actually happens to you, you think you definitely won't be eating that again."

Miss Piper says her daughter bought her young son the popcorn chicken as a treat.

"The reality of it is, popcorn chicken is mainly what children eat because it hasn't got bones in it," she said.

"My grandson has a healthy diet. Children his age eat finger foods and should be able to have a takeaway treat without being criticised."

Council bosses say they have received the report from Miss Piper's daughter, but it is too early to comment.

A KFC spokesperson said: "We’re sorry to hear Stacey was put off her meal, that’s the last thing we want!

"Rather than being mouldy, this looks like contact with the edge of one of our baking trays, which is totally harmless.

"That being said, it doesn’t look great so the team have reached out to offer a full refund to help make things right."
