Magic of the Cup

FOLKESTONE Invicta aim to take their FA Cup winnings to £9000 when they face Horsham in their second qualifying round tie at Cheriton Road on Saturday. The increased prize fund this season is a real boost for clubs at this stage of the competition, a point not lost on boss Neil Cugley.

He said: "It's a good incentive for all clubs at our level, and very useful at this stage of the season. It's a nice tie for us and we have had Horsham watched and know they like to play good football, but have got home advantage, and hope to progress.

Invicta will look to claim their second Ryman League, Premier Division scalp in successive rounds, having put out Ramsgate a fortnight ago, after needing a replay to get past Kent League Sevenoaks.

Cugley hopes Lee Spiller might be back at the weekend after recovering from a knee injury, but Jimmy Corbett is still troubled by tendonitis. Defender Mark Green missed the second half of Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Whitstable, having picked up a knock, but should be fit. Craig Wilkins replaced him as Cugley changed his formation, playing three at the back.

The result extended Invicta's unbeaten run to eight matches, but Cugley was a little disappointed especially with their second half display. He said: " We were 1-0 up, but didn't really do enough. I think we played some good stuff at times, but felt we got a little bit frustrated in the last 15/20 with too many midfield players and defenders bombing forward. We need to be a bit more patient in situations like that.

Horsham edged past Combined Counties League side Colliers Wood United 1-0 in the previous round, but are without a win in their last four league games, and lost 4-0 at Dartford on Saturday.

They were due be at home to Sussex rivals Hastings last night (Wednesday). If Saturday's game goes to a replay it will be at Worthing's Woodside Road where Horsham ground-share, following the closure of their Queen Street home due to re-development.
