Brothers to face retrial over violent assault

Two brothers accused over a violent incident in which a man suffered brain damage are to face a retrial after the jury was discharged on Monday.

Jim Parkinson, 56, was injured at a taxi rank in Gravesend town centre after seeing Ebbsfleet beat Torquay 1-0 in the FA Trophy final at Wembley on May 10 last year.

Benjamin Turner, 24, of Downs Road, Istead Rise, denies causing Mr Parkinson grievous bodily harm with intent and an alternative charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Matthew Turner, 31, of Highview, Meopham, denies affray. Ryan Bell, 29, of Lucas Road, Snodland, has admitted affray.

After a week of evidence, Judge Andrew Patience QC discharged the jury of eight women and four men for legal reasons. Bail was continued until a retrial on October 26.
