Gravesend RFC ended a run of four straight defeats in National League 3 London & South East with a last-gasp 21-20 victory at Bracknell on Saturday.

The home side settled first and Tiaan Visser's try opened the scoring with Ben Nowak converting.

But Gs' pack soon began to assert their power and Josh Smith's penalty narrowed the difference to 7-3.

Nowak's penalty made it 10-3 but from the restart Scott Curley pounce on a loose ball to score. Smith’s conversion made it 10-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The home backs were finding it difficult to penetrate the Gs defence until, with a hint of offside, Ian Birch broke the tackles to cross the line.

Nowak was again successful with the conversion to make it 17-10 before a Smith penalty reduced the deficit to 17-13 at half-time.

Gravesend then made their forward superiority tell in the second half and skipper Jamie Forsythe was driven over to edge his side in front for the first time at 18-17.

Nowak restored Bracknell's lead with a penalty, but three minutes into injury time time Sam Hall slotted home a penalty to give Gs a workmanlike but deserved victory.
