A man arrested after a fire broke out at a shop in Gravesend yesterday morning has been bailed.

Crews were called to Kent Hair Studio in Harmer Street at 3.55am on Wednesday.

One man was treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

Police remained at the scene and later a Kent Fire and Rescue Service investigation team were at the hairdressers.

A 20 year old man from Gravesend was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and is currently in police custody.

He has been bailed until April 14.

It is the second fire in Harmer Street this week.

On Sunday fire crews were called to reports of a fire breaking out in the basement.

Crews used breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a main jet to tackle the blaze, while a ventilation fan was used to vent smoke and fumes from the property.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but will be jointly investigated by KFRS and Kent Police.
