No one to be prosecuted over death of Richard Powell from serious head injuries three days after a row at Victoria train station

A man arrested in connection with the death of a Higham father after a row at a London railway station will not be prosecuted.

The 21-year-old from south London was originally arrested in August last year after Richard Powell, 39, died from serious head injuries.

Mr Powell, who ran a plastering firm and featured on the BBC series DIY SOS during a building project in Longfield, became involved in a row on the main concourse at Victoria station.

It is believed the Crystal Palace football fan was returning from watching a pre-season friendly when trouble flared.

He died three days later at St Thomas’ Hospital, London.

The man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and released on bail pending further police inquiries. He has now been told he will not be charged.

A spokesman for British Transport Police, who held an appeal for information at the station in September, said the Crown Prosecution Service had decided no action would be taken.

The man had been re-released on bail several times throughout the investigation.

An inquest into Mr Powell's death is expected to be held in London at a later date.
